Working With Cancer

ree

I just signed up for a workshop titled “How to return to work successfully after cancer” and thought you might be interested too...

This topic is hardly addressed by anyone, even though we all know how important work is in everyone´s life: apart from the important financial aspect, it is a way to be connected, it is a source of identity, meaning and purpose and so much more.

Physical exhaustion, chemo brain, fear of coming back to a changed workplace, fear of presenting your changed self, loss of confidence, need of more flexible working hours for medical visits ecc – all of this are challenges to face. Here I found some suggestions on how you can make this return less stressful?

🌺 Don´t rush going back to work, you need to own what you are feeling and when you are ready

🌺 Stay in contact with your work colleagues during your absence and update them – people like to hear from you

🌺 Be open with your manager and say what you need

🌺 Know your rights (“face return” to work, no discrimination, adjustments – all depends on the country law you live in)

🌺 Reassess your career priorities

🌺Ask for help! Find organizations, counsellors, coaches, support groups who can support you in this journey.

👉If you are interested in knowing more about this topic, go on www.workwithcancer.com

I found it very informative (FYI I have no personal connection to the association!!)

👉if you would like to share your experiences regarding going back to work after cancer treatment, especially in the UAE, please share.
